2016 eBuggy National Champions

2016 eBuggy National Champions

The last round of the E8 and Truck UK nationals were held at the Slough track recently and upon arrival we were greeted with a very smart and well prepped track, the team were looking forward to getting underway.

In the initial practise rounds very good pace was shown by all of the team in both electric buggy and nitro truck. Darren in particular was feeling very confident as we went into qualifying.

After the 3 rounds were completed, in the Truck class it was Tony Truman and Jon Hazlewood leading the way for our team, with good performances shown by both, Jon was Q3 and Tony in the 2 spot for the main final.

In eBuggy Darren took an unchallenged TQ in all of the rounds. Very good pace was also shown by Joni Skidmore and Ollie Currie. They lined up 1st, 6th and 8th respectively.

The truck main final was run first and Tony and Jon were both pushing for a podium when a mechanical problem forced Jon to return to the pits after holding second place well into the second half of the 30 minute final. Tony moved into second, only to run out of fuel...He would return to the track and with great pace finally climb back to 4th overall and with it take 2nd in the championship, with Jon 3rd.

Darren, Jonny and Ollie were all primed and ready for the electric A main. On the strike of the buzzer the final was underway and with Darren in the TQ spot he lead into the first corner, this 1st place position was maintained for rest of the final, with no pressure being placed on him by other drivers as he pulled a large lead. Jonny had a difficult final, as some small errors punished on this track layout but Ollie Currie showed good consistency and he held out to take the 4th spot.

So when these final scores were added into the champioship we were delighted to see that Joni had secured 2nd overall for the series, making it an Agama A215e first and second in only its first year since Its release.....In Truck Tony took 2nd and Jon third, so another double podium for us.

We would also like to say a big thank you to Chris Jeffreys for his absolutely flawless race directing and championship management over the course of the 2016 championship, well done.

As this series comes to a close, we are looking to carry on supporting Chris and his race’s by attending the AWS series through the winter months.....
