Nemo Racing Weekend Round Up. Bloomfield & Skidmore Win

May 06, 2014

On a rare sunny Bank Holiday weekend in the UK, several races took place with good results for NEMO Racing supported drivers.

First up was the Slough summer series race which saw a strong field of drivers take to the track in the sunshine in what would be a very competitive days racing. The recent wet weather had left the track surface in an UN prepared condition as the club had had no opportunity to get on it, which would in turn produce an ever changing track surface throughout the day.
The track started out loose and dusty, and NEMO Racings Darren Bloomfield would take the first round TQ on a track that was challenging all the top drivers to obtain a clean run. The next two rounds would see both Jack Embling and Elliott Boots take a round win a piece leaving a three way shoot out for pole on round four. By this time the track was starting to clean up, but that in turn bought about its own problems as the grip was getting better making the bumps even more tricky. Darren Bloomfield produced a great controlled drive to take the round win and in the fastest time of the day to take the pole. Team mate Jon Hazlewood took second in the final round  to take fifth overall.
The main final saw Darren make a clean start from pole and settle in over the first few laps to avoid making any errors while the chasing pack battled away behind. Darren's patience paid off when second place Boots crashed and Embling couldn't avoid the accident, this gave him a comfortable cushion and the increased traction meant that the pursuers made further errors in trying to force the pace to catch up. Indeed the strongest challenge came from Graham Alsop who found a good rhythm and by using the excellent fuel mileage of his BULLITT B-219 he was able to make a 1 stop strategy work to close in. Darren unfortunately lost time in pit land when a fellow car was released into his and cost him 5 seconds, but Darren remained calm and in control to take a 7.5 second victory margin at the flag despite the extra stop. Ollie Currie came through to take an excellent fourth after a tough day getting his lines and set up right for the track.

Up North, the NRS race at Storm Valley saw NEMO/Agama driver Jonny Skidmore continue his excellent form from the NEO race by taking an excellent TQ and win. Jonny took TQ in two or the three qualifying rounds to take the pole, and would go on to take an excellent victory in a close fought battle.

Finally, BETA driver Simon Reeves would take a TQ and lights to flag victory at the Herts RC Summer Series race, where using the superior traction and longevity of his BETAntyres he was able to decimate the opposition and win by over a lap.

Next weekend we look forward to the second round of the BRCA National Series at Coventry...
